We sold our souls grady hendrix6/10/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() This review will contain some MAJOR SPOILERS – if you want to read this book unspoiled (and you really should), then I’ll just point out that it is an awesome novel that is a must-read for fans of heavy metal music and horror fiction. So, let’s take a look at “We Sold Our Souls”. Well, I was in the mood for a horror novel, so I thought that I’d take a look at Grady Hendrix’s 2018 novel “We Sold Our Souls”.Įver since I discovered a fascinating website about the history of horror fiction called “Too Much Horror Fiction” ( run by Will Errickson, who has co-written a couple of non-fiction books with Grady Hendrix), I’ve been meaning to read one of Hendrix’s novels because he seems to be a modern horror author who is keeping the glorious tradition of 1980s/90s paperback horror alive □ And, to my delight, I found that a second-hand copy of “We Sold Our Souls” had finally come down in price when I was looking online for books. ![]()

Highland Solution by Ceci Giltenan6/9/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() She had lived in the worst of conditions with a nasty, self-centered, mean-spirited uncle. I will continue the series with Highland Courage next month.Katherine was one of those characters whose good qualities you wished you had. For a debut novel, I’m extremely satisfied with the plot, character development, ratcheting suspense, pace of the story, theme and the happy ever after of this lovely Scottish Highland romance. I very much recommend the listen and book. It made me angry for the stupidity of some men!Ī delightfully entertaining highland romance, packed with suspense, greed, spite, forgiveness, humor, loyalty and love. Laird Niall MacIan was my favorite because he was so damned flawed and had such a way to travel to become a hero.ĭid you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? ![]()

Lud in the mist by hope mirrlees6/8/2023 ![]() Taken at face value, the story starts slowly, but becomes more compelling from half-way through, when it falls into a conventional narrative with heroes, villains, and a reason to care about the outcome. The story can be read (with some risk of sucking the life from it) as an allegory of the ways the conscious mind tries to suppress the unconscious, with disastrous results. With uneven and shifting tones, the book tells the story of the bourgeois mayor of Lud-in-the-Mist, who must unmask a conspiracy by the world of faerie to infiltrate his stiff, modern, and complacent capital city. First published in 1926 but often out of print, this tale is relatively obscure for similar reasons. ![]() ![]() After sampling many, I realized that by and large (with some exceptions), the plants we have domesticated taste better and are a lot less work to prepare, and that's why the wild plants have stayed wild. Years ago, I was interested in learning about edible wild plants from Southeastern (U.S.) forests. ![]()

The Perfect Heresy by Stephen O'Shea6/8/2023 ![]() A handful of people not dying, a handful of others dying earlier, and Europe might have been a very different place. It's actually quite hard to read this book because you want the story to come out differently so very much, and there were points when it could have. ![]() Good lord, the cruelty and misery that the Catholic church has wrought. ![]() A crusade was called for, and was every bit as vile, greedy, spectacularly violent and flat out evil as, oooh, all the other crusades. ![]() So they had to go, and by happy chance, the French monarchy was bang alongside any excuse to put down the independent and headstrong Languedoc nobility. Except, of course, to the Church, by making people question why they should give much of their money and labour to support a bunch of greedy corrupt bastards when you could attain heaven by simply living a good life of service, prayer and self restraint. As far as can be told they just.didn't do any harm. Basically the kind of religion you can get behind. ![]() They were against the established church and monarchies because worldly pomp, didn't believe in oaths or sacraments unless they were given by people who actually demonstrably lived up to their principles, didn't believe in tithing, were against violence, generally believed in something like equality for women and lower classes. The grim, grim story of the Cathars, a dualist sect who believed the material world was evil. ![]()

But a career in space isn’t an option for a girl who lives in a trailer park on the wrong side of town. ![]() Ryann Bird dreams of traveling across the stars. I’m a little late in posting my book review (prioritizing school and my health!!) and the book published two weeks ago, but I hope I manage to convince you all to pick up a copy whenever you can, because it is absolutely worth it!! Sure, most of the book took place on Earth, and sure, the gay was very slowburn, but did I adore it completely despite that? (Yes.) I don’t think I’d ever read a YA gays in space book until now, and I have to say… it was everything I was looking for. That, and also the fact that it’s written with some of the most gorgeous prose ever and it made me cry and has an absolutely stunning cover. That’s pretty much all you need to know to pick this book up. ![]()

Your Truest Self by Quin Brooks6/7/2023 ![]() ![]() The United States filed a Statement of Interest arguing that, under the Act, the front doors and walkways are “public use and common use portions” of covered dwellings and therefore required to be accessible, regardless whether there is another accessible route into the unit. ![]() ![]() Defendants argued that their only obligation was to provide an accessible route into the unit, which, they alleged, they had done by providing an accessible route through the garage. At issue was whether, under the Fair Housing Act’s accessibility requirements for newly-constructed multifamily dwellings, the front door and walkway leading to a covered unit are required to be accessible to persons with disabilities. On August 10, 2020, the court issued an order granting partial summary judgment in favor of the plaintiffs and against the defendants in Ability Center, et al. ![]() |
