![]() ![]() The book ranges across a vast canvas, from the agony of Poland amid the September 1939 Nazi invasion, to the 1943 Bengal famine, in which at least a million people died under British rule- and British neglect. ![]() He suggests that the Royal Navy and US Navy were their countries’ outstanding fighting services, while the industrial contribution of the United States was much more important to allied victory than that of the US Army. He argues that, while Hitler’s army often fought its battles brilliantly well, the Nazis conducted their war effort with ‘stunning incompetence’. ![]() The author emphasises the Russian front, where more than 90% of all German soldiers who perished met their fate. Reflecting Max Hastings’s thirty-five years of research on World War II, All Hell Let Loose describes the course of events, but focuses chiefly upon human experience, which varied immensely from campaign to campaign, continent to continent. The man died twice6/12/2023 ![]() But today we are moving to the New Testament and looking at the story of a man whose history begins not with his birth, but with his death. ![]() Last week we looked together at the story of a man in the Old Testament whose history began with his birth and what his mother named him when he was born. This makes them fascinating to trace out and most rewarding to apply. For in these stories we see reflected by divine intention aspects and characters of ourselves, and learn lessons from them. We’ll discover that each Bible story is also a picture or perhaps more accurately, a mirror in which we see ourselves, and this is what makes them so eternally fascinating. From our youth we have been enjoying these wonderful Bible stories, exciting tales of intrigue and adventure, romance, but they’re not merely stories. These Bible stories as many of you have discovered are never merely stories. These morning hours we have been looking at certain Bible characters together. ![]()

Confessions of a shopaholic book 26/11/2023 ![]() ![]() Isla Fisher, carrying the movie on her petite shoulders, is flawlessly cast as neophyte journalist Rebecca Bloomwood. Honestly? Confessions of a Shopaholic has a closet-full of these elements. In order for a romcom to work, it has to feature a compelling protagonist, look pretty, and generally follow the classic screwball blueprint of comedy stylings and romantic dynamics. The film was called loud (it is), a hybrid of The Devil Wears Prada and Sex and the City (it was) and an ode to materialism (although it’s more like a cautionary tale), but despite all of this, I find myself returning to it, like a perfectly lived-in leather jacket. “If you spin out the unintended analogy of Confessions of a Shopaholic to the current financial crisis, the film starts to mutate from a not-that-funny comedy into a tragic allegory,” wrote Slate. ![]() A good chunk of the criticism surrounding Shopaholic centred upon its tone-deaf timing: a movie released during a global recession about a young woman addicted to shopping, whose desire for Gucci boots and Marc Jacobs underwear leaves her in over $16,000 of debt. ![]()

Catalyst michael grumley6/10/2023 ![]() Because of this, she finds it difficult to find an acceptable balance between advancing the science and protecting the dolphins. She does, however, have a strong emotional attachment to the dolphins, which takes precedence over anything else. Shaw is your typical female scientist found in many thrillers, obsessed with the science and willing to put herself in harm’s way in order to advance her agenda. There are a number of characters that are constant throughout the series, but I would have to say that the two main characters are Alison Shaw marine biologist and lead researcher on the dolphin communication project, and John Clay a military analyst that is part of what is called the Electronics and Signaling Team within the Department of Naval Investigations. This creates a very unique and interesting plotline that investigates the human interaction between our fellow creatures on a totally different level. The focus of Grumley’s Breakthrough series involves computer technology that has the capability of being a translator between humans and dolphins and later in the series between humans and gorillas. ![]() Grumley’s series Breakthrough would be a hit when two of the main characters are dolphins known as Sally and Dirk. Dolphins have always been a favorite among humans and it is no surprise that Michael C. ![]() |
